Volunteering at The Mission Theatre
About Volunteering:
Every week The Mission Theatre endeavors to bring both local and global talent to the people of Bath. We wouldn’t be able to do this as regularly as we do without the help of our volunteer team. As a charitable organisation with limited funds we rely on the kind donations of time by our volunteers to staff our shows and be a friendly face for audiences. Take a look below at the various roles we have available for volunteers and choose what suits you.
Bar Volunteers:
The Mission Theatre is lucky enough to be able to run two bars for audiences to buy refreshments from. The first is in The Theatre Upstairs and sells a wider range of our drinks, snacks and ice creams. The second is our Accessible Bar in the back of the Main Auditorium, intended for the use of those who can’t make it to our top floor, as well as for added convenience for audience members running a bit late to the show. Both of these bars run simultaneously before a show, which is why it is so important we have a minimum of two volunteers available for each performance staged at The Mission.

Bar volunteers are required to stay through until the end of shows to help clean up, which means you get a free ticket to sit and watch the show for your time.
We run our bar card readers using the iZettle app. Volunteers may sometimes be asked to log this in on their phones for use on our Accessible Bar.
We are a fully licensed premises with permission for volunteers to serve alcoholic beverages to members of the general public.
We do not have any items on draught, all our beverages are served from bottles or cans - so not to worry if you can’t pull a pint!
Meeters-and-Greeters
Our resident company (Next Stage Theatre Company) as well as incoming hirers with small casts will sometimes need us to provide a “Meeter-and-Greeter” for their show. This is someone who stands at the door of The Mission welcoming in guests, ticking them off of ticket lists and/or selling on-the-door tickets, and selling show programmes. Meeter-and-Greeters are also responsible for liasing with our bar volunteers and the show’s stage crew to ensure our front of house procedures run to time. It’s a simple job and all it requires is a friendly face and somebody who likes talking to people.

Next Stage Theatre Company will ask for a meet-and-greeter from our volunteer pool for every perfomance of one of their shows - a great opportunity to see some productions of the highest quality for an affordable price.
Meet-and-greeters do not get to see the show they volunteer on for free, but can pay a concession rate for their time - and recieve a free drink!
Brochure Distributors (Current areas required: Weston, Newbridge/Chelsea Road)
Three times a year (Spring, Summer, Autumn) we produce our seasonal venue brochures, often in partnership with our partner venue Burdall’s Yard. We require volunteers to take stacks of these brochures and distribute small numbers of them to local outlets in various areas of Bath. It's a twice-seasonal commitment of taking only a couple of hours whereby volunteers drop a number of brochure sinto each shop, or pop one through the letterbox of each house on a street, and keep track of how many they have put in each location on a record sheet we provide. It’s great if you like to go on walks and meet more people in your local area.

You don’t have to be 18 or over to be a brochure distributor, just an active individual and a friendly face.
We will require an email and mobile contact for you so that we can arrange brochure pick-up times and keep you in the loop on distribution deadlines.
