The Arsonists by Max Frisch (adapted by Alistair Beaton)

  • The Mission Theatre 32 Corn Street Bath, BA1 1UF United Kingdom (map)

Tickets: £15
Concessions: £12

Playing Up present Max Frisch’s The Arsonists, a gripping dark comedy that masterfully explores the dangers of moral complacency and denial. The story follows Biedermann, a seemingly respectable businessman, who naively invites two strangers into his home despite clear signs they may be arsonists. Frisch’s sharp satire delves into the psychology of self-deception, revealing how easily we rationalize the unthinkable. With its absurd humour and biting social critique, the play remains disturbingly relevant in addressing collective guilt and our passive complicity in modern crises.

For 20 years Playing Up have successfully staged challenging and important plays from around the world from some of the greatest playwrights.  With professional standards, attention to detail and a core of actors and technicians of the highest calibre, the company has carved an enviable reputation as “One of the best theatre companies in Bath.”
